Concept B · For Jordan (parent) and Maya (tutor)
A short letter each week, not a dashboard
A parent should be able to answer three things in a minute: how is she going, what can I do, and what is coming up. The tutor writes one honest note and the system carries it.
Ava Brooks · Year 7 Maths · week of 19 October
Hello Jordan,
What we worked on
On 5 October we looked at equivalent fractions, which are different-looking fractions that mean the same amount. On 12 October we moved to adding fractions when the bottom numbers are different.
What went well
Ava explained a worked example in her own words and completed guided practice. Explaining an idea back is the harder part of fractions, and she is doing it.
One thing to try this week (about 5 minutes)
Try, don't fix
Ask Ava to show you, with a quick drawing, why 1/2 and 2/4 are the same amount. If she gets stuck, ask her what she would do first. Try not to give the answer; hearing her explain it is what helps.
Written by Maya and approved on 20 October. Maya's private lesson notes are never shown here.
Homework
-
Equivalent fractions, six questions Not handed in
Was due Sunday 11 October.
-
Adding fractions with unlike denominators, six questions Not handed in
Was due Sunday 18 October.
Ava can see both pieces and a button to tell Maya when she will finish. You do not need to chase her; a friendly "how is it going?" is plenty.
Next lesson
Wednesday 21 October, 10:30 am Melbourne time, 45 minutes. Fractions in everyday problems.
Write to Maya
Pick a starting line or write your own. Maya sees it with the lesson it is about.
Maya usually replies within a day. If you need to cancel less than 24 hours before a lesson, the tutor's own policy applies and is shown here before you confirm.

Note for Jordan
Draft, not sent
Suggested wording from an AI tool It used only the topic, goal and homework. It did not see your private notes.
"This week Ava worked on adding fractions with different denominators. To help at home, ask her to show you one example with a drawing and explain her first step."
Using it only fills the "Note for Jordan" box. You can undo, and nothing reaches Jordan until you approve.
Before you approve, check
- It names something specific Ava did, not just "good effort".
- It gives one thing to try at home that takes about five minutes.
- Nothing from your private notes is in it.
Changing the note after approving takes it back to draft, so Jordan never sees an out-of-date version.
- Does a parent read the whole note, and can they say what to do next without opening anything else?
- Does "try, don't fix" feel helpful or like homework for the parent?
- Does the tutor write the note faster when the private and parent-visible text sit side by side?
Not built: sending, calendar export, reply timing, cancellation policy. "Usually replies within a day" is a placeholder the tutor would have to set and keep.
